Our endeavour to create an awareness to the students about the Medicinal values of the plants surrounding us, ,the school launched its herbal garden. The Principal in-charge Mrs. Geeta Arunachalam took the initiation to tie up with “DEEKSHA” to get plants of near about 30 varieties to our garden as well as a membership to have magazine for every month to our school library.
The Lioness Club of Delhi Greater team visited on 18th December 2012 and appreciated the students for the awareness program given by them on “Live Demo of Herbal Plants at our school” and also appreciated our students for their effort in art classes on viewing the display of various paintings and handicraft articles.
Mushroom cultivation is one of our Eco-Club acitivity since 2010 in association with National Centre for Fungal Taxonomy and the support from Ministry of Environment, NCT , Delhi. Students are encourage to participate in cultivating mushroom using Bio degradable waste viz. paper, straw, kitchen waste etc. In the month of Dec 2012, As a knowledge dissemination and Eco-friendly activity, a one day Training program (both class room & practical exposure) was arranged in our school premises in which teachers from 25 different schools were actively participated and gained the methods and procedures of cultivating mushroom of different varieties like Agaricus (Button mushroom) and Pleurotus (oysters mushroom). The above said project is recognized and appreciated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi.
Eco meet 2013, held at Talkatora Indoor Stadium on 12-13 Feb 2013. A stall was set up at the Eco meet from DTEA Pusa Road Sr Secondary School and displayed different kind mushrooms developed in our school premises. Also Handicraft materials prepared by our students using recycled paper such as decorated dyas, Aprons, Shagun envelops etc. were also exhibited. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Mrs. Sheila Dixit and Secretary of Ministry of Environment were visited our Stall and appreciated our students. The above activity was published in a daily tamil news paper namely Dinamani on 15-02-2013.
Eco clubs of our schools provide an eco-friendly atmosphere and strictly support "Go Green Drive". Mushroom cultivation using organic materials, "Deeksha's" herbal gardens, Loinness Club's Medicine plants groove, Vanmahotsavs, planting new saplings are the attractions of the club. Eco clubs also conduct various inter school poster making, slogan writing competitions and debates on burning environmental issues to sensitize the students about their responsibilities towards the planet. Our teachers attended "Teach Earth" a national level conference held in Kullu, since teachers can better inspire the students to save earth in all possible ways and our students are always ready to pledge for, Green Delhi- Clean Delhi.
Tamil Elakkiya Mandram, English Literary Club and Hindi Sahitya Sabha of DTEA schools conduct competitions monthly to enhance the language skills of the students. They come out with innovative ideas and bringforth new vistas in their learning experience. Debate, Extempore, Recitation, Versification, skit, One Act Plays, Story Telling, Speech are some among the activities of the Literary Clubs.
Each school has four Houses like Tagore, Bharathi, Tulsi Das and Kali Das. Students are divided class wise and will be the members of particular house. Inter house competitions are held to keep up the healthy competitive spirits of the students and thus nurturing their talents.
